Royal Purple Las Vegas Bowl in the Books

By John M. Arnaud

Parts Pro sponsoring vendor Royal Purple is of course known for its high-performance lubricants, but college football fans will also know it as the current sponsor of the Las Vegas Bowl, the 16th-oldest FBS bowl in existence.

Traditionally pitting teams from the Mountain West and Pac-12 Conferences, the Royal Purple Las Vegas bowl this year featured an all-Utah showdown between the Utes of the University of Utah and the BYU Cougars. Utah raced out to a staggering 35-0 first quarter fueled by turnovers before holding off a second-half BYU surge to win 35-28—its second straight victory in the bowl.

We’re busy catching up after the year-end chaos like everyone else, but we didn’t want to let 2016 get too far gone before congratulating Royal Purple on another exciting year of Las Vegas Bowl sponsorship.

Talking Performance with Painless

By John M. Arnaud

When the candy apple red Camaro pulled into our parking lot last week, we knew Painless Performance had arrived. Company President Adrian Murray and National Sales Manager Derek Love came into town to talk shop, marketing, and the promotion of their exciting new Trail Rocker product line.

This year Painless celebrated its 25th anniversary in the aftermarket industry. The company boasts the number-one-selling chassis harness in addition to a variety of fuel injection management systems and other electrical components. Long known for excellence in the classic car and truck sectors, the company is moving into new territory with the Trail Rocker for Jeep, an in-dash power center that allows off-road adventurers to control up to eight accessories from the safety of a waterproof housing.

Under the Hood with P&E

By John M. Arnaud

Parts Pro regularly hosts marketing strategy meetings for manufacturers and distributors from throughout the country, but this week we welcomed three special visitors from just outside our own backyard: P&E Distributors.

P&E, which stands for performance and electronics (fun fact), operates out of Goodlettsville, TN, which is just northeast of Nashville. In the aftermarket business since the early 1960s, P&E remains a family-run organization committed to the growth and success of its jobbers. The two-time SEMA Warehouse Distributor of the Year maintains an extensive selection of both truck and performance accessories to fulfill needs for a diverse customer base.

The P&E contingent included Purchasing Manager Chris Eatherly, Warehouse Manager Josh Eatherly, and Marketing Director Scott Dobler. They made the 4.5-hour drive east out to see us for a two-day marketing intensive, which included business analyses, customer-focused discussions, and goal building.

Starring This Week: Motive Gear

By John M. Arnaud

This week Parts Pro had the pleasure of hosting Motive Gear (and Richmond Performance Products—they’re both under the Midwest Truck and Auto Parts umbrella) for an all-day brainstorming session. Motive and Richmond offer premium drivetrain components, including ring and pinion gears, differentials, performance transmissions, transfer case parts, and replacement axle shafts.

Our guests were Bob Linville, Motive’s vice president of sales, and Steve Filipiak, the company’s director of marketing. They came down from the Windy City to share their plans for the coming year and to get more involved with the program tools we’ve built to help our retailers and jobbers succeed at the local level.

Many thanks to Motive Gear for investing in our time together. Here’s to ending 2015 with a flourish!

Certain cars have had an indelible effect on the pastime, and Hot Rod Milestones compiles the best of these for the enjoyment of those who live and breathe the category.

Twenty-five hot rods receive comprehensive treatment in the book, among them Ed Iskenderian’s 1924 T Roadster, Tommy Ivo’s 1925 T Roadster, Blackie Gejeian’s 1926 T Roadster, and Ray Brown’s 1932 Roadster in the Street and Competition category; the So-Cal 1934 Coupe and “Chili” Catallo’s “Little Deuce Coupe in Street and Competition Coupes; and Ed Roth’s Outlaw “T” and Tony La Masa’s 1932 Roadster in the Show Roadsters/Coupes section.

Author Ken Gross chronicles the vision and impact of each featured vehicle, while the photography of Robert Genat captures the proportions, details, and essence of what made these cars visual legends. Also included are vintage photos of those roadsters and coupes, which allow for a welcome glimpse back in time.

The folks over at CarTech do a fantastic job of producing thorough, readable, and knowledgeable how-to guides that span the spectrum of aesthetic and performance automotive modification. Superchips and Edge Products in the House!

By John M. Arnaud

Parts Pro and The AAM Group yesterday hosted sales and marketing leaders from two giants in the tuning industry: Powerteq’s Superchips and Edge Products. In the all-day collaboration, we discussed how Parts Pro’s marketing tools and services could help secure broader exposure for the companies’ leading-edge tuners.

For proof of visit, we all gathered at the end of the day for a group photo. The bright sun caused as many squints as smiles, but we got the shot!

AAM HONORS RALPH ACCINNO AT ANNUAL MEETING

Former Board Member Recognized for Invaluable Contributions

Thanking him for his years of service and support, Parts Pro parent company The AAM Group presented Ralph Accinno with a custom painting at a special dedication held during its recent Annual Membership Meeting. Accinno, retiring founder of Racer’s Equipment Warehouse in Rhode Island, provided many years of leadership on AAM’s Board of Directors and served as a tireless advocate for the group to affiliated vendors and other members.

AAM President Tim Odom commented, “We could not let Ralph leave AAM without a thank you. Among our members, Ralph was our most vocal supporter, and his endorsements always made a difference to AAM. He gave AAM meetings a unique character by way of his optimism, encouragement, infectious humor and even his occasional antics, which kept us on our toes. Fiercely loyal, Ralph set aside his own needs when the needs of the group or others were greater. I consider Ralph a personal friend, and I want to thank him personally for all he has done to mentor me in my role at AAM.”
