Cloyes: Timing Chain Water Pump Kits Now Available

Cloyes has added timing chain water pump kits to its growing timing system lineup, starting with two applications for GM Ecotec, covering nearly 4 million vehicles currently operating across North America:

  • 9-4201SWP: for GM Ecotec 2L
  • 9-4201SAWP: for GM Ecotec 2.4L

Similar to timing belt water pump kits, which have been successful in the aftermarket, timing chain water pump kits are necessary as the shift to OE chain-driven timing drives increases. Failing more frequently than timing chains, timing chain–driven water pumps should always be replaced at the same time as the timing chain to reduce warranties, customer comebacks, and preserve long-term system performance. Cloyes is actively developing other kits and will release them as they are complete.

Available for Ford 3V 4.6 and 5.4L applications, variable valve timing (VVT) chain kits from Cloyes tested superior to their OE counterparts, exhibiting 20% less frictional drag and 10% more torque at the same oil pressure. Race-ready Race Billet True roller speed sets feature sprockets machined from premium billet steel on Cloyes’ state-of-the-art CNC equipment, then induction hardened and oil-quenched using the company’s in-house, multi-stage heat-treat process. Premium True Roller chains boast superior strength and full roller action, while the side plates are cut and shaved from high-strength steel and heat-treated for maximum fatigue resistance.

All Race Billet True sets are hand matched at the Cloyes facility by the company’s trained techs to qualify center distance and control runout. Available with 3 or 9 keyway crank sprocket.

Note: Chevrolet applications include the Cloyes patented “cheater” sprocket tooth profile, which offers exacting center distance and improved load distribution.
