Pertronix has entered the automotive rotating electrical market with a bang: its new Contour Starter covers applications including Chevy small and big block; GM LS; Ford small block, 351W, and 351C; Mopar small and big block, and Oldsmobile/Pontiac V8, with other applications to follow.

The Contour is a beautiful, functional product, with a sleek, fully enclosed aluminum body that protects interior components from damaging heat and the elements. Adjustable starter clocking allows for improved clearance around headers and other parts, while the powerful Nippondenso motor is married to a 4.4:1 gear ratio to produce 200 ft.-lb. of torque and dependable starting of high-compression engines.

If you’re running a modern LSx drivetrain in an older vehicle, you’ve probably wondered how you’re going to integrate all of your aftermarket gauges. Until now, your only option was to purchase individual sensors and install them just to run the gauges—even though your modern LSx drivetrain already has the necessary sensors integrated into its computer control system. If running redundant sensors seems a bit, well, redundant, the LS Gauge Controller from Painless Performance is just the product you need.

This module uses the information that is already available through your OBD-II port, eliminating the need to run duplicate sensors for your various gauge functions. You’ll be able to use most aftermarket speedometer, tachometer, coolant temperature, oil pressure*, and fuel level* gauges thanks to an advanced data-conversion process. The 60650 LS Gauge Controller is compatible with all GM gas engine drivetrains from 1996. Not currently compatible with GMPP engine harness kits.

MSD (6010): 6LS Ignition Controller for LS Engines

The 6LS ignition controller from MSD can now be installed on EFI or carburetor-equipped engines. While it may seem blasphemous to some, putting a carburetor on a GM Gen-III V-8 is a great option for those wanting the advantages of an aluminum small block without the headaches of wiring a modern EFI system. The controller allows you to map a timing advance curve with MSD’s easy-to-use Pro-Data+ software. Other programmable features include a two-step rev limiter, a vacuum advance curve for cruising economy, and even a step retard in case you want to add a little nitrous to the mix.

The 6LS is designed for LS1/LS6 type engines with a 24-tooth wheel, which can be identified by its black crank sensor connector, and fits with matching factory connectors for a direct installation. Only a handful of connections are required, including the coils, crank sensor, MAP sensor, and cam sensor. You’ll have your carbed LSX running in no time!
